THE LATEST INDUSTRY BUZZWORD - ATD
Over recent years, reducing emissions was pretty much on the agenda of most world governments and vehicle manufacturers, however, increased media coverage on the drive to reduce global warming means that the average car owner is now much more aware of the problem, and the associated vehicle technology designed to combat it.
One of the latest ‘buzz’ acronyms in our industry is ATD, which stands for After Treatment Device. These devices reduce carbon emissions from a vehicle and are crucial in combating the impact on our environment.
The two most common ATDs are still the catalytic converter and diesel particulate filter which, outside of their intended function, share something else in common in that the main reason they fail is usually because of another fault on the vehicle. If a vehicle fails the MOT, or displays a fault, the blame is very often cited as the cat or DPF. However, these can only convert the gases that actually pass through them.
Provided that everything else is functioning correctly. If the vehicle is running poorly, the cat or DPF will fail, very often due to excessive heat or blockage. It is therefore extremely important to rectify any problems before a replacement part is fitted.
Ignition or injection faults, internal coolant leaks and excessive oil consumption can all lead to premature failure and incorrect oil specification is also a common cause. When you need to replace a catalytic converter or Diesel particulate filter, we recommend BM Catalysts, Europe’s largest independent manufacturer of catalytic converters, diesel particulate filters (DPFs) and front pipes for the aftermarket.
Why Buy BM Cats?
All BM Catalyst homologated cat converters and DPFs are type approved and tested in accordance with the relevant emissions standards.
They have industry leading availability, with 60,000 parts in stock at all times and 99.9% of all orders dispatched same day.
Around 90% of the components used are manufactured in-house as they like to know what goes into the product and that it is of the highest quality.
Parts are developed using precision technology, such as laser mapping, to ensure an accurate fit to the vehicle.
